Google’s Nexus 7 Tablet Leaked

nexus-tablet-googleGoogle I|O is right around the corner and rumors are flying all over the place regarding what will be announced and how it will change the market, well it looks like we’ve just gotten a sneak peak of one of the announcements scheduled for this Wednesday’s keynote. The Nexus 7 tablet. Read on for the full story and leaked specs.

First off, according to the leak, the Nexus 7 tablet will be manufactured by Asus, given that they’ve made some of the most popular 10 inch android tablets (Transformer and Transformer Prime) that’s pretty understandable. The tablet itself, as you can see in the picture above, is pretty similar in design to Amazon’s Kindle Fire, and that’s certainly what it will be competing with at it’s price point of $199 and $249 for the 8GB and 16GB versions respectively. As the name suggests it will have a 7’’ IPS display with a resolution of 1280×800 as well as a 1.2MP front facing camera. Lastly it will sport some pretty impressible 9 hour battery life. To me, this sounds pretty reasonable, the Kindle Fire has been the most successful Android tablet to date, people like cheap and user friendly.

Here’s where I get a bit skeptical though. The leak also says that this thing will be sporting a 1.3 GHz quad core (tegra 3) processor, have 1 GB of RAM, and a GeForce 12 Core GPU. These specs completely blow those of the Kindle Fire out of the water in every respect, I just don’t know if I can see this device coming in at such a low price, and still just about going toe to toe with the likes of the Transformer Prime.

That brings me to my last point, to truly compete with the Kindle Fire, Google will need to bring a lot more content deals to the Play Store, especially Movies and TV. Content ecosystem is one of the biggest strengths of the Kindle Fire and Amazon in general, so I’ll be expecting to see more about that at the keynote this Wednesday. Tune back in then for all the news on the announcements.
